“I decided at the last minute to participate in the Northwest Urbex Tour organized by Jonk. It was a good decision, as it was set for four intense and varied days in the abandoned sites offered (old buildings, mansions, factories, etc.). The highly organized and optimized route took us on a journey through space and time. With a great team, we didn’t have time to get bored. My little experience stopped at factories with lots of graffiti but few well-hidden and original places like the ones we saw. Nature inevitably reclaims its place, relentless, and it’s beautiful. Thank you, Jonathan.” Francis
“A fantastic 4-day tour with Jonk in Brittany and Normandy. We explored a wide variety of locations thanks to excellent scouting, which still left room for improvisation when we came across an abandoned house by the side of the road… Factories, mills, farms, manors—we came back with tons of memories, thousands of photos, and a few aches and pains!” Carole
“I discovered Jonk thanks to ULULE in 2023 when his book “The Lost World” was published, and I was drawn to his world. The book fascinated me, and I really discovered URBEX on this occasion, with photography as a backdrop, for which I have a real interest. A one-day URBEX outing was also proposed, but I wasn’t able to participate. So when Jonk announced his Urbex Tour project, I didn’t hesitate for long. A lover of Brittany, I chose the one organized in the West; Jonk’s kindness and availability gave me confidence and largely contributed to the success of this wonderful adventure. The four of us, Jonk and three apprentice Urbexers, set off on a beautiful morning in late April. And what an excursion! We explored 5 to 6 sites per day, crisscrossing Brittany to Normandy. I loved it! What an experience and what a wonderful time together. The good relationship between us largely contributed to the success of this trip, as did Jonk’s kindness and intensive preparation. I appreciated her risk assessment without putting anyone in danger during these four days. I have superb images in my head, wonderful memories, and the pleasure of discovering extremely varied sites: castles, houses, abbeys, factories, and even an improbable dinosaur park, and, last but not least, the omnipresent nature. I’ve never heard so much bird songs. So I’m ready to go again, maybe to Italy! I’m giving it at least 5 stars ;-)” Catherine
“I knew Jonk back when he didn’t even have a ‘k’ in his name! For me, he’s always been Jon. At the time, he saw himself working in mechanics: one of his other lives. I’ve always kept an eye on his progress…even from afar. His expedition reports have always fascinated me, given that we both share a great interest in nature and the environment. I knew an opportunity to join him would present itself sooner or later. When he told me about his ‘Urbex Tours,’ I jumped at the chance! When the time came, I headed to the capital with complete confidence. I know the guy: jovial, accommodating, patient, interesting, respectful, a good listener…and with a great sense of humor! But I didn’t yet know the pro, except through his photos and stories.” Well, I wasn’t disappointed: four days of traveling punctuated by the discovery of magnificent sites as varied as railway relics, mining sites, industrial sites, religious sites, tourist attractions… such a diverse range of places that those who follow him will undoubtedly be blown away by their beauty. His preparation is simply incredible: he always knows exactly where to go, where to park, how to get there, what we’re likely to find… and all in complete safety. Sometimes the sites are hard-earned… I remember this beautiful railway roundhouse accessible through a field with very tall, dense grass: it was very tough going, but it was worth it! The level of preparation is so high that I needed one hand too many to count the “failures” over four days and the twenty or so successes! Even the different routes are carefully planned to avoid spending too much time in the car at any one time… impeccable organization, I tell you. Now all I have to do is pick out some of the artist’s photos to hang a great souvenir on my wall! As soon as the opportunity arises, I’ll repack my bag without hesitation! Give in to the adventure, you won’t regret it, I promise!” Gaëtan
“I’d been wanting to accompany Jonk to abandoned places for a while. Partly to spend some time with him, but also, and especially, to discover all the locations from which his magnificent photos are taken! And now I have! As promised, Jonk took us on a drive from one place to another: the remains of a castle here, a dilapidated hotel there, an abandoned factory, the ruins of a church, an old deserted manor, a shipwreck… The explorations were numerous and varied, and I truly felt like I was discovering Jonk’s world in total immersion. And during the drives between locations, we chatted with Jonk and the two other adventurers, Marie and Didier; it was very pleasant.” Rémi
“Thank you, Jonk, for introducing me to this world I knew nothing about: urban exploration and graffiti artists. The trip was quite active, but I’m so glad I was able to keep up with you so easily. We were two friends, both amateur photographers, and it was a pleasure to have so many subjects to photograph. Between the ruins, the vegetation that had taken over the old walls, and the magnificent murals we discovered, I came back with nearly a thousand photos! I was a little worried at first, but even though Jonk was moving faster than me, he was always waiting for me. I’m happy with all the great moments we shared. We got along perfectly. The trip was well-planned, with no time wasted! There was a wide variety of sites, and above all, a lot of organization went into it beforehand. I never felt unsafe, maybe just a tiny bit when two dogs came to visit us near a castle. But it all went well! I hope to repeat the experience. Thank you so much for this experience, Jonk. And perhaps see you soon for another stay.” Marie
“The story begins simply with a friend asking me to join an urban exploration photography trip with someone named Jonk. I was somewhat familiar with his work, but not with him personally—and what a person he is! I sincerely want to thank Jonk, who made this urban exploration photography trip in Southwest France so memorable.
Thank you for the company, the inspiration, and the conversations that accompanied each abandoned place we explored, each light we captured, and each moment we shared. These discoveries, sometimes hidden around a bend in the road—and what a road it was—or buried in the silence of the past, took on a whole new dimension with our guide, Jonk. Jonk put together a packed but very varied itinerary for us, with amazing spots, sometimes a little challenging, often spectacular. There was no wasted time; the locations and access points were already researched beforehand. Urban exploration always holds a few surprises, but Jonk wanted to expose us to this reality, and that’s great (difficult paths, closed or guarded locations, suspicious neighbors, etc.).” Our friend Jonk is truly a great urban exploration specialist and a passionate enthusiast; I’d even say he’s completely immersed in urban exploration, and all of this has an extremely positive impact on the trip. A big thank you to Jonk.” Didier
“First Urbex Tour with Jonk, whom I’d already met at his gallery for an opening. I got into urban exploration four years ago, and it’s something I do as often as possible. I thought it would be great to go with Jonk and Francis, who are involved in both this scene and the graffiti world. We spent four action-packed days exploring a wide variety of sites, which allowed me to realize that despite my unbridled love for factories, I can appreciate the aesthetics of other places. The three of us got along really well; it was like going off-grid with friends in terms of atmosphere. We were pretty much on the same page regarding our approach to urban exploration, especially in terms of respecting the sites. I’m really glad I experienced this with them; I had a great time and discovered some spots that were definitely worth the detour.” It will be a pleasure to meet up with Francis and Jonk again in the future for other adventures.” Claire
“I was able to enjoy this new Urbex Tour in the Southeast of France in November. Once again, it was a great time filled with sharing, laughter, and of course, discovering some beautiful abandoned sites thanks to Jonk. I still have too many images in my head; it was intense. A few muddy crossings and plunges added some spice. Beautiful autumn light made it an experience I’d love to repeat.” Francis
